Creationism: A Matter of Faith and Truth

Since Charles Darwin published his theory of evolution in 1859, the debate over origins has persisted:

  • Did life evolve over millions of years?
  • Or was the world created by God in six days, with the seventh day set apart as holy?

This debate has played out in schools, churches, courtrooms, and even modern platforms like social media and YouTube, including the widely publicized 2014 debate between scientist Bill Nye and Christian apologist Ken Ham.  So, how can a believer in today’s world know what to believe?  The answer is simple—it lies within the pages of the Bible.

The Bible Speaks for Itself

When we read the Word of God as it was intended—line upon line, precept upon precept—there is no need for debate.

“By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”
Hebrews 11:3

Belief in God’s Word requires faith. When we begin to question Scripture, not because of biblical study but because of outside influences, doubt takes root. This is exactly what happened in the Garden of Eden:  “Then the serpent said to the woman, ‘You will not surely die.'” Genesis 3:4

Satan twisted God’s truth and planted doubt in Eve’s heart. She chose to believe the word of the serpent over the Word of God. This same spiritual deception continues today: human reasoning is often used to challenge divine revelation.

The Danger of Human Reasoning
The Bible warns against relying on human wisdom apart from God:  “I want you to understand that the gospel message is not based on human reasoning.”
Galatians 1:11

“Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.”
Colossians 2:8

Man-made philosophies—whether evolutionary theory or religious distortions—attempt to question, redefine, or reject God’s truth. But truth is not up for debate. It simply is.  God does not call His people to argue over what He has already clearly revealed. Instead, He calls them to believe and obey.
“The words of the Lord are pure words.” Psalm 12:6

A true believer does not argue with the Word of God—they stand upon it.

Creation: A Matter of Belief

Some professing Christians attempt to merge evolution with creation, claiming that God used evolution to bring life into existence. But can a Christian believe in both creationism and evolution?  The Bible gives a resounding no.

God asks the doubter:  “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal is God, follow him.”
1 Kings 18:21

We cannot believe both in the unchanging Word of God and in the ever-shifting theories of man. There are only two choices:

  1. Believe in the God of the Bible—the Creator who spoke the world into existence.
  2. Trust in the words of men—who continually revise, debate, and redefine truth.

Jesus Himself declared: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
John 14:6

All truth is found in Him, and anything contrary to His Word is not truth.

God’s Creation Declares His Glory
God’s existence, power, and creative work are not hidden mysteries—they are clearly revealed in the world around us.  “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.”
Romans 1:20

Despite this clear evidence, many refuse to acknowledge the Creator. Instead, they:

  • Become futile in their thoughts
  • Have their hearts darkened
  • Profess to be wise, yet become fools (Romans 1:21-22)

God calls human reasoning apart from Him futile and foolish. The evidence for His existence is undeniable—but belief is a matter of the heart, not the mind.

The True Question: Do You Believe the Bible? The debate over creation vs. evolution is not really a scientific debate—it is a spiritual battle.

The real question is not creation vs. evolution but rather:
“Do you believe the Bible?”  “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” John 17:17

Everything outside the Bible is up for debate. But inside God’s Word, there is no debate—only truth that sets men free.  We all have free will to believe what we want. But in the end, there is only one road that leads to life—and it begins with these words:  “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
Genesis 1:1

If you truly believe in Jesus Christ, then you must also believe His Word—every part of it. Creation is not a theory—it is truth.  The question is simple: Will you believe it?
